Extra Passports (2 years validity)

Extra Passports are issued in special cases and for a maximum of 2 years.

  • Forward the statement from the employer to the embassy.

The embassy then submits the declaration to the police in Denmark. When we receive a confirmation from the police to issue an Extra Passport, we will contact you to make an appointment. We can only make an appointment after we have received consent from police.

You must meet in person at the embassy in Vienna for the appointment and bring the following:

  • Your current 10-year passport or current Extra Passport.
  • Completed and signed passport application (form can be downloaded here or filled out at the embassy).

When the Extra Passport expires, it must be handed in for cancellation at the nearest Danish representation.

Extra Passports cost the same as an ordinary 10-year passport. See applicable fees here.

FAQ

Can I get a new Danish passport during my vacation in Denmark?
Yes. It is possible to get a passport from a municipality in Denmark. All Danish citizens can in principle be issued a passport by contacting a Citizen Service (borgerservice) in any municipality. You do not have to be a resident of the municipality or have any particular connection with it. Search for the nearest center at borger.dk (only in Danish).

Can I have my child enrolled in the passport?
No. Since October 1, 2004, children, including newborns and unnamed children, have to have their own passport. It may be issued by the consulate as an Emergency Passport if you urgently need a passport. See more about Emergency Passports above.

Should children under the age of 12 also submit fingerprints?
No. Fingerprints are not recorded from children under the age of 12, but they must meet in person to apply for a passport.

Should I meet in person at the embassy to apply for a passport?
Yes, you must always meet in person to submit the passport application.

Declaration of consent
For passport applicants under the age of 18, both guardians with parental shared custody must be present and complete and sign a declaration of consent at the embassy. If one guardian cannot be present, they can also sign at another Danish representation in the world or in a Citizen Service Center (borgerservice) in Denmark. Alternatively, you can also give digital consent with MIT-ID. Once you have given your consent and signed with MIT-ID, you can print a receipt. The receipt will also be sent to your digital mailbox (E-Boks). The consent is valid for 90 days.
