07.02.2020  13:40
The Danish ambassador, René Dinesen participated in the annual high-level conference on Combating Anti-Semitism in the OSCE Region 4.-5. February 2020 as part of his visit to Pristina and Tirana between 2nd and 5th of February 2020. The conference on Combating Anti-Semitism was organized by the Albanian Chairmanship with the participation of OSCE officials, representatives of participating States, international organizations and civil society including a representative from the Jewish community in Denmark.
The purpose of the conference was to share best practices in the fight against Anti-Semitism. The importance of education, especially about Holocaust, but also about the numerous  important contributions by the Jewish community, which our societies have benefited greatly from, was emphasized. Additionally, the importance of concrete action plans from governments both in regards to securing the Jewish societies physical presence as well as initiatives to prevent hate speech particularly on the internet were highlighted.
The Danish ambassador delivered a clear message that anti-Semitism absolutely does not belong in our society and that concrete plans of action are necessary. The ambassador referred to the Danish government’s action plan for fighting Anti-Semitism, as well as the efforts within the framework of the so-called “Danish Model”. The Danish Model is special because of its focus on establishing a permanent physical protection of the Jewish community including schools and synagogues, and the close cooperation between the Danish government and the Jewish community in Denmark. The Danish representative of the Danish Jewish community also mentioned these measures in his speech and expressed great appreciation for the cooperation between the Danish Government and the Jewish community in Denmark.
The conference was well attended and characterized by a dynamic, honest and open exchange of challenges and positive experiences. Denmark will continue to fight actively against Anti-Semitism in the OSCE Region as well as nationally.
Besides being the ambassador to the OSCE in Vienna, René Dinesen is also the Denmark’s bilateral representative in Albania (side accredited to Vienna). The participation in the OSCE conference in Tirana therefore also facilitated the opportunity for a bilateral meeting in the Albanian Ministry of foreign affairs.
