International Conference on Nuclear Security: Sustaining and Strengthening Efforts

Today the Danish ambassador, René Dinesen delivered the Danish statement to the IAEA’s (International Atomic Energy Agency) high-level conference on sustaining and strengthening nuclear security. Denmark supports the IAEA‘s work within nuclear security which includes efforts to prevent terrorist’s access to or other malicious or criminal use of nuclear and radioactive material. The conference adopted a declaration which emphasized the support of all member states for the IAEA‘s activities in this field.
 
Since 2007, Denmark has contributed to the IAEA’s Nuclear Security Fund, which finances a range of activities, including strengthened border controls and transport security, better cybersecurity and physical protection of nuclear power plants.
 
In his opening speech the IAEA’s new Director General, Mr Rafael Grossi, emphasised the necessity of strengthening nuclear security especially in view of growing use of nuclear and radioactive material.
