Statement by the Permanent Representative of Denmark, Ambassador René Dinesen on agenda item 3: Verification and monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council resolution 2231 (2015)

Madam Chair.

Denmark fully subscribes to the EU statement delivered earlier.

We continue to support full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA). We are strongly in favour of preserving this key multilateral agreement because of its clear non-proliferation benefits.

At this juncture, in order to protect and uphold the deal, we consider it crucial for Iran to return to full implementation of all its commitments. Among other issues, we urge Iran not to take steps that would further enhance its enrichment capacity.

We welcome all efforts made to preserve the agreement and to solve all implementation issues, including within the framework of the Joint Commission.

We continue to attach strong importance to the IAEA’s professional and independent monitoring and verification activities and we thank the Director General for his impartial and detailed reporting.

Clearly it is necessary to ensure adequate funding for these activities, and we are endeavouring to make a further voluntary contribution in this regard before the end of the year.

Madam Chair

On the issue of detected natural uranium particles of
anthropogenic origin at a location in Iran not declared to the Agency, we join the Director General and many other Member States in underlining the need for a full and prompt explanation from Iran.

We appreciate that the Director General will continue to keep the Board informed as appropriate.

Thank you, Madam Chair
